Developing Strong Work Ethics

One of the things our workplaces are in dire need of is strong work ethics. I've often told people that it's not enough to have degrees from great universities or other institutions. One must make an effort to develop good work ethics, as our employers, colleagues and bosses exepct these from us.

 

In this aricel, I ahve defined what ethics are, and outlined what good ethics are and how you can develop them. I have also shared what poor work ethics looks like, and how to avoid it.

What ado we understand by ethics?

Work ethics simply refer to a code of mral principles and values that guide our beahviour towards one another and the organization we work for. This would usuallly depend on what sector we work in as well as our organization's culture.

In all, we know how to indeity good work ethics through an emloyee's level of commirment and productivity. What qulairy of work do dou trun out daily?

Do you prioritize your work every day?

What about tardiness? Are you on time to work daily and stay till close of work as stipulated in the employee handbook and code of conduct that you signed when you employed?

Do you have an ownership mntality to the things that go on in the organisation, and specifically to your job responsibilities and contribution to the overall growth of the organization where you work? Or do you do the basics while waiting to be paid your salary at the end of every month? work ethics

Poor work ethics would make an employee to turn out poor quality work, not minding the effects on the organization. Conssidtent tardiness and absenteesism is associated with poor work ethics.

So is selfishness and a mentality that puts your personal interest above the interest of the organisation. That's what leasds to cutting corners, bribery, toxic office politics and pulling others down in order to appear great before the bosses.

 

How thren do you develop strong work ethics?

It all starts with evaluating your practice and developing self discipline, and then prioritizing your work daily.
