The inaugural South East Educators Conference (SEEC 2024) on the 18th and 19th of April at the Nike Lake Resort and Hotels Enugu, is one that will not be forgotten in a hurry by all who expereinced it.
It drew together some of the brightest minds in the educational sector across Nigeria. As I reflect on those two days, I find myself still enveloped in the warmth of the experience, marvelling at the excellence that permeated every aspect of the conference.
From the moment I stepped into my hotel room, I knew this was no ordinary event. Each speaker, myself included, was greeted with a surprise package awaiting in our rooms—a thoughtful gesture that set the tone for the exceptional hospitality to come. And who could forget the personalized celebrity throw pillow, a delightful touch that added a sprinkle of charm to the whole experience?
At the heart of the conference was a collective dedication to advancing education in the South Eastern States of Nigeria. What struck me most profoundly was the spirit of collaboration that infused every interaction. Here, amidst the bustling sessions and vibrant discussions, I could see the power of unity in pursuit of a common goal.
At the core of this collaborative effort was Barrister Mrs. Chinedu Okoro, a visionary woman whose passion for education propelled her to conceive the South East Educators Conference. Her vision, to empower educators across Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, Abia, and Imo states and beyond with the tools for 21st-century teaching, was not merely a dream but a catalyst for action. And in response, to the ripple effect of collaboration, others swiftly rallied behind her cause, each lending their expertise and enthusiasm to the collective endeavor. It was simply splendid!
One of the most resonant lessons from the conference was the profound impact of leading by example. As educators, we often extol the virtues of collaboration to our students, but it is in our own professional conduct that the true essence of collaboration is seen and modelemodeled. The unity and cohesion demonstrated by the 12 school owners involved in planning and organizing the conference served as a powerful model for all attendees, showcasing how cooperation can fuel innovation and drive positive change.
Among the many sessions that unfolded over the two days, there was so much to learn My session on "Managing Your Support Staff for Performance and School Growth" was well-attended with lots of positive feedback from the audience which lead to in-house training requests from four schools. It was a privilege to share insights and strategies gleaned from years of experience, and the engaged audience response underscored the importance of fostering a supportive environment within our schools.
As the maiden edition of the South East Educators Conference came to an end and we departed on the 20th of April, I found myself eagerly anticipating the promise of future gatherings. The bonds forged, the knowledge shared, and the inspiration ignited will undoubtedly reverberate far beyond the conference halls, leaving an indelible mark on the educational landscape of Nigeria.
