Being in Akure last weekend to facilitate training sessions in a top school was so surreal for me!
You know, I attended secondary school at Federal Government College, Ido-Ani in Owo Local Government Area, Ondo State which incidentally is not far from Akure.
So, for me, this was a homecoming of some sort.
As the driver of my host school took me from the airport to the hotel, I took the time to observe the hills and it brought floods of memories back from my secondary school days. And the several trips I had to make to school before I graduated.
And it was even more of an experience for me because it was a coincidence that my training sessions were on the 8th of October and a Saturday which marked the date of the first first day I set foot at FGC Ido-Ani. That was the exact date forty years ago!! Yes, it's been four decades but the memories came back as fresh as it was yesterday.
Actually, I had been scheduled to be at Akure last month but had a flight cancellation. And the new date coincidentally fell on this very significant date for me!
I had a great time taking two sessions on the topics ‘Developing 21st Century Skills as Educators' and ‘Team Building’.
The reception, engagement, willingness to learn and attitude of the staff were simply amazing.
Thank you for hosting me, Akure!
Let’s do this again!!!
