Writing an Employee Code Of Conduct For a School

Creating an employee code of conduct for your school is the first step to making sure all employees know their responsibilities. The code should be enforced through formal disciplinary procedures for both the employees and the students.

In this article, I'll lay the introduction which will serve as a foundation for subsequent posts on this subject matter.

Whether you're a school administrator or any other staff, it's important to create an employee code of conduct for your school. A code of conduct is a set of behavioral standards that outline what employees can do in their job and not do, like stealing or bullying, or waht time to arrive at work and close daily. It also guides employees as to who they report things to and when. Understanding what's included in your code of conduct will help with issues such as sexual harassment, absenteeism from work, and violence or other threats to health and safety while on the school campus.

The employee code of conduct is a document that outlines your company's or school's expectations for employees, both in the office and on the job.
It covers everything from workplace behaviour to dress code and appearance,
off-campus behaviour and how to handle disciplinary matters, amongst others.

You know how you want your staff to feel safe and comfortable coming to work each day? Then why not create a code of conduct that guides them through their everyday interactions with others? A key goal of creating a code of conduct is to help employees understand how their behaviour affects others, but more importantly, it's about ensuring that both employees and those they interact with understand the expectations for the way they treat each other.

Every organization that does not have an employee code of conduct will definitely experience challenges with getting the staff to understand the expectations from the employers and management.

So I urge you to make the time to create one as an administrator, and you'll see the difference it makes when you are clear on the expectations you have of your staff.
